Bubblegum pop artists ruled the charts at the beginning of the new millennium, with Britney, Backstreet and *NSync leading the pack.  It didn’t take long for these acts to fall out of favor, and rock, rap, hip-hop and R&B took their place.  Names like Nickelback, Kanye West and Black Eyed Peas were everywhere.  Award shows were not to be missed, with gay and lesbian kisses, stage crashers and nightmare performances aplenty.  The decade ended on a sad note, however, when the King of Pop passed away.  In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com reviews these and more musical milestones from the first decade of the new millennium.

Them crooked vultures group shot

Once again I’ll throw my favorite 20 albums of 2009 into the mix of the 9 billion year end lists out there. Remember that these are NOT necessarily the 20 “best” albums of the year, but the 20 albums that I personally enjoyed the most. There’s also a great chance I’ve missed a few albums that I sincerely loved around 10 months ago, but the list is finished and I don’t give a shit!

The list will be presented in a new “Gallery” format where you click next to advance to the next album, as well a YouTube embed will provide one example of a song from each album.

Without further ado, check out album 20 in Jackhammer’s Best of 2009…

This sucks… remember how crappy RHCP were without Frusciante for 1995’s One Hot Minute?  No? Exactly, that album sucked.  Read more about the split from RollingStone and check out John ripping it up onstage with his former band…

Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has confirmed that he has “quit” the band, writing in a MySpace blog post, “To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction.” The Peppers are reportedly working on their follow-up to 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, and rumors began circulating last week that Frusciante had permanently left RHCP and was replaced by guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who along with Frusciante toured with the band in 2007 and also appeared on Frusciante’s 2009 solo album The Empyrean. Until now, representatives for the RHCPs would not confirm the news of Frusciante’s departure to Rolling Stone. Frusciante clarifies in his MySpace post that he actually left the band over a year ago when they were on indefinite hiatus.

“I really love the band and what we did,” Frusciante writes, adding that there was no drama or anger involved in his decision to leave. “Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do.”
