Bajofondo, the acclaimed Argentine-Uruguayan collective led by Grammy and Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla, will release their much anticipated new CD, Mar Dulce, on July 15, 2008, on the Decca/Surco imprint.
While Bajofondo’s previous albums have showcased the band’s virtuosic instrumental talents, Mar Dulce expands the Bajofondo tango universe with performances from a superlative international cast of vocalists including Elvis Costello, Nelly Furtado, Julieta Venegas, Gustavo Cerati, La Mala Rodriguez, Santullo, Juan Subira and the late Lagrima Rios.
Bajofondo previewed the material from Mar Dulce in Los Angeles with an interview and live performance in their first-ever radio appearance on KCRW’s popular “Morning Becomes Eclectic” program on June 11. That evening the band made their LA concert debut at a sold-out show at the El Rey Theater. Variety called the performance “…a singular rich musical experience…viscerally enchanting…” The following evening Gustavo Santaolalla was honored with the Icon Award for his accomplishments in film and recorded music at the annual BMI Latin Awards.
The band plans a run of summer festival dates that will treat American audiences to the unique participatory experience of their music. Dates have been announced as follows: August 3 in San Francisco at the Urban Grove Festival, August 15 at New York’s Central Park Summerstage, and on August 27 at Millennium Park in Chicago.
`Public Radio International’s national weekday news magazine “The World” aired an interview with Santaolalla on the new album on June 13. Bajofondo will grace the cover of the October issue of Global Rhythm Magazine and features and reviews have been already committed by the Associated Press, Billboard, Chicago Tribune, CNN en Español, Hoy, La Opinion, New York Daily News, New York Post, People en Español, and San Francisco Chronicle, among others.
“Pa Bailar”, the first single from Mar Dulce featuring a sizzling vocal performance from Julieta Venegas, charted #75 on Billboard’s Top 100 Digital Singles in its first week of release.

1. What artists have inspired you to sing and why?
Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. As I began to sing, I always sang their songs. They are amazing and they always sing from the heart. Celine Dion is by far the most inspirational singer in my mind. She makes you feel every lyric she sings.
2. Was there an exact moment that you realized “Yep. Music. This is what I want to do”?
At the age of 9 I won “America’s Most Talented Kids” and I knew from that moment on that I wanted to sing and make music for a long time.
3. Is there a memorable performance that you’ve given that stands out in your mind?
I opened a concert for Michael Bolton, at the summer concert series in NY. There were over 5000 people in attendance. After I sang “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion, I received a standing ovation. That was cool!
4. Are there any artists you’re dying to work with?
Celine Dion. Also, Jordin Sparks. We performed together on “America’s Most Talented kids”. She was 14 years old at the time and I was 9.
5. What have you been listening to and digging lately?
Hip Hop, R&B and some Rock.
6. Any plans to tour and do more live shows in the future?
Yes, I just finished recording some new songs and the plan is to get out and do more shows.
7. Where can people go to learn more about your music and what you’re up to?
www.alessandrguercio.com and www.myspace.com/alessandraguercio
8. Besides music, what other interests occupy your time?
Dancing. I love to dance and I am on the Company competition team at my dance school. I like hanging with my friends, going ice skating and to the Coney Island Amusement park. I also love family movie night. We all get together, make popcorn and watch a good movie together, my mom, dad, sister and little brother.
Wayne Brady - “Ordinary” (audio)
Los Angeles, CA - On September 16, 2008 Peak Records/Concord Music Group will release Wayne Brady’s debut album, the appropriately titled - A Long Time Coming.
The Emmy Award winner is the consummate entertainer, whose talent truly knows no boundaries. As a stage, screen and live performer Brady is unparalleled.
But now, he turns his attention to his first love: music. The 12-track R&B collection features Brady’s own compositions standing side by side with his loving, inspired reinventions of such classics as Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come,” The Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” and Stevie Wonder’s “All I Do.”
“I always thought that Wayne Brady was an amazingly talented performer with an incredible voice,” says Andi Howard, president of Peak Records. “When asked by his producers if I would be interested in signing him as an artist to Peak my response was an emphatic, yes. Not only did he deliver a fabulous album, but an album that is extremely heartfelt and exceeded all expectations. It was indeed ‘A Long Time Coming.’”
Brady linked with The Heavyweights, the superstar production team composed of Jack Kugell, Jamie Jones and Jason Pennock, to write and record the album. The Heavyweights’ productions have sold more than 28 million albums and include work with such superstars as Jim Brickman, Martina McBride and Destiny’s Child.
First single, “Ordinary,” is a mid-tempo burner that pays tribute to the glorious simplicity found in every day life and love. Penned by the Heavyweights, Sarah Nagourney and Welford B. Walton II, the song is enhanced by Brady’s nuanced, soulful delivery.
Brady’s talent is too big to contain to any one format. He’s currently starring in his own Las Vegas show, “Making It Up,” which runs Thursday-Monday at the Venetian Hotel. The revue highlights his legendary music, dance and improv skills, for which he won an Emmy while appearing on “Whose Line is it Anyway?”
Brady, who also garnered two Emmys as outstanding talk show host for his self-titled syndicated talk show, will return to TV as host of Fox’s hit show, “Don’t Forget the Lyrics,” this fall. Additionally, Brady has also appeared as Neil Patrick Harris’s gay brother on “How I Met Your Mother,” and Tina Fey’s bad-luck boyfriend on “30 Rock.”
