German hip-hop/techno artist Flula Borg is kickstarting the release of his EP “DemoPlatte” with a live concert at The Viper Room this Sunday, July 8 th.After a successful career in Germany as a DJ, songwriter, producer, and touring live-act, Flula moved to Los Angeles last year to establish himself as a force in the American music industry. His highly entertaining, energetic, fast-paced, genre-bending style features a unique blend of European dance flavors combined with distinctively American rap and hip-hop influences.
Flula’s first breakthrough on U.S. soil came unexpectedly through a pod filmed for Current TV; the pod, entitled “Take Me Home James,” was voted one of the network’s top five pods of 2006 (View the pod here).
Following Flula’s TV debut, Alex Simmons—a producer at Current—began documenting Flula’s epic journey to spread his music throughout the city of Los Angeles—and beyond. Check out the most recent quirky 4-minute episode of the documentary here.
Flula debuted his live show in the U.S. for the first time last month to a packed house at The Airliner in downtown L.A., and recently played an invitation-only show at 1332 Westerly. One of the hallmarks of Flula as a live performer is that he keeps the crowd involved with his contagious energy, irresistible beats, and by organically creating much of his multi-layered music live on stage.
