I burned out on Hey Ya a long time ago… It was cool when it first came out, but then it was just played out to death and then stomped on and thrown in the trash with last weeks stinky garbage. If I never heard the Outkast version again I would probably die a happier person.  Then out of nowhere a buddy of mine sends me a link to a cover of the song by some dude name Mat Weddle from a band called Obadiah Parker… I’d never heard of either.  Anyways, I figured I’d give it a listen, because a) I was curious, and b) it wasn’t the Outkast version.  I was stunned! This dude had taken a song and completely reinterpreted it to the point that it became a great song for me again! Are you kidding me? When does that ever happen?  It would be the same as someone covering Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” and making me not want to pour acid into my ears!

All to say, hats off to Mat Weddle for his creativity, great voice and even better beard.  Check out the video below and rediscover this song all over again:
