Tainted catfish and pork from China are only a few of the food scares of 2007 that have raised concerns among restaurant operators and their customers. One survey of consumers last month by American Express found that 40 percent of U.S. consumers avoid purchasing food products from certain countries. A recent report on food safety by Technomic, a leading restaurant industry research firm, found 38 percent of American consumers “extremely concerned” about food safety. LANSING, Ill., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ — As September’s National Food Safety Month kicks off, a new survey of 2,500 Americans reveals that 93 percent of Americans are as concerned or more concerned than they were last year about contracting food-borne illnesses.
The study, conducted by TNS, a world leader in market research and commissioned by National Pasteurized Eggs, also revealed that 96 percent of Americans say that media coverage has contributed to keeping or increasing that concern over the past year. continue reading...
