“I’m blue, da-ba-dee da-ba-dye”
Love it or ‘meh’ it, 2006’s Superman Returns didn’t perform to the lofty expectations of Warner Bros (more then breaking even, it cost a whopping 209 million dollars to make, but earned just over $391 million dollars globally in a pre-recession economy). Despite this, Christopher Nolan, the visionary behind The Dark Knight is going to be helming its reboot. The question is, what happens to the man who did a fairly great job at wearing Superman’s cape and outside undies?
Brandon Routh, was probably the second best part of Superman Returnsa. Kevin Spacey’s wacky Gene Hackman impression was the first. Still, for its faults, there was nothing wrong with the actors involved in the movie (with the exception of Kal Penn, better known as Kumar from ‘Harold and Kumar’ who was pretty much involved to be… involved).
That said, the man who replaced Christopher Reeves as the man of steel has been pretty silent until now. However, he has just announced that he’d love to return to the iconic role in the upcoming Nolan reboot.
Routh says he’s aware of the significant amount of affection for him to continue in the role on the internet, and now he wants his supporters to generate a “tsunami of support” for his return.
Look, he did a good job. That said, its a reboot and a clean slate means a clean slate. It just wouldn’t jive to have him continue in a new continuity that is darker and more gritty.
What do you think? Is it time to reboot the actor as well?
Oh, by the way, wouldn’t it be great if they brought back Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor? Man, he was awesome!
