Has Mel decided to build an Ark instead?

Everyone’s favorite drunken, bigoted and self-obsessed bible thumping Hollywood heavyweight is apparently giving up the directors chair after his next project, is this the act of a coward or a brave heart… lets speculate shall we?

As you all may well know, Mel stayed away from the lens of a camera for eight years before making his lukewarm return to acting in ‘Edge of Darkness’ earlier this year. However, it has been four years since he sat in the directors chair for the Mayan epic ‘Apocalypto’.

Now, Gibson’s next directorial duty will be another epic sized piece, this time centered on the Vikings of old. The writer, William Monahan (Who’s credits include: Kingdom of Heaven, Edge of Darkness, and The Departed) will pen the film.

Interestingly, Leo DiCaprio will star, cause when we think Viking we all instantly think Leo (as opposed to man child, sorry he’s the male version of Drew Barrymore…the guy hasn’t changed since puberty from what I can gather).

The twist in all of this is that this big scale Viking film may be Mel’s last film as director. But why? Has Mel finally realized that his star is tarnished, or did a primarily Jewish Hollywood threaten to circumcise him if he makes another film?
