According to IMBD.com there are a few Star Trek sequel ideas floating around that you might find very interesting…
Here they are in no particular order, along with some of my thoughts.
Rumor 1: William Shatner
William Shatner is in consideration to return in the sequel as an aged James T. Kirk (that won’t be hard to pull off!). This is despite Shatner’s Kirk meeting his death in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations when he rolled down a mountain on a broken bridge walkway. Apparently, the alternate continuum created a ‘previously untold story’ that would allow for Kirk’s resurrection. Personally, I think he should be present in a mind meld from older Spock (Nimoy) and then call it a day.
Rumor 2: Villain Vs. Exploration Dilemma
Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman see a huge dilemma for the sequel. Namely, do they put the crew up against another baddy, or have an actual “exploration sci-fi plot where the unknown and nature itself is somehow an adversary,” like in the original series. I say, why can’t we do both?
Rumor 3: Khan
Originally, the famous villain Khan Noonien Singh (From the episode Space Seed & The Wrath of Khan) was going to be the film’s antagonist, but Roberto Orci decided against it as no one could match Ricardo Montalban’s performance (chest plate and all).
Rumor 4: The Borg
The writers feel that the Borg are the most likely candidate to be the antagonists for this film. Apparently this is to draw “parallels with the Star Wars (1977) theme of ‘man/machine’ immortalized by Darth Vader; they feel it would be interesting to get the Borg, who mechanized their organic bodies but left them without any personality, to rediscover their spirit just as Vader did. It is also chronological to bring in the Borg from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ (1987) after the Romulans from ‘Star Trek’ (1966)”
Great idea, for the later on… For now, give us Klingons! In this time period/timeline, the Klingons and humans are still enemies. I say they should set it up for the third movie and this time leave out the queen. She ruined the whole concept as it made a faceless/terrifying enemy into just having to defeat one crazy biatch.
