The 41 year old son of former Star Trek star Walter Koenig (Chekov) has been found dead in a park after going missing two weeks ago.

According to Jody Thompson of The Mirror:
“Andrew Koenig, who found success as an actor himself in US sitcom Growing Pains, was found in a wooded area of a park in Vancouver after apparently committing suicide. His body was near the Olympic city by friends at around midday yesterday. The 41-year-old was visiting friends in Vancouver when he went missing on February 13.”

beetlejuice-rumours.jpg

Is there any doubt that Tim Burton’s classic horror comedy Beetlejuice will be resurrected, despite the complete lack of a reason for doing so?

Well over the years there have been several rumors and scripts that never materialized.

I attribute this interest in reviving the spooky franchise to the mild success of its ridiculous cartoon series (in which BeetleJuice was the protagonist), the huge profit margin the original film generated (73 million from 13 million), its spawning of awesome Halloween costumes, a skinny Alec Baldwin…..and the fact that it was Michael Keaton’s favorite movie role.

Speaking of which, I think that only Keaton should re-inhabit Beetlejuice, as it belongs to him. Common, even at age 58, Keaton can still make it happen. As recently as 2005 he even expressed interest in the project.

Here is the history of sequel rumors:

Some time after the 1988 film launched a sequel was considered. Disturbingly, it was called “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian”.

Here’s the premise- “The Deetzes move to Hawaii to develop a posh resort. Construction begins, and it’s quickly discovered that the hotel will be sitting on top of an ancient burial ground.” Believe it or not, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder throught heir hats into the project, but Tim Burton lost interest in the camp-driven sequel (can you blame him).

Then in 2003, BeetleJuice was supposed to go Urban:
“Beetlejuice has been banished into limbo where he meets up with an URBAN version of himself who helps him wreak havoc on an inner-city environment.”…Ugh, are you in pain as well? Well, it’s true we almost got a movie called “Beetlejuice In The Hood”. And in case you missed it, the term “urban” was used to mean black. Does anyone want their Beetlejuice with a side of racist?

In 2006, he was supposed to go direct to DVD:
Does the downward progression startle you? I too once thought that people (including movie executives) got smarter over time.

Anyways, I still believe that we’ll see the character rise from the grave once again, regardless of the quality. However we will never see another skinny Alec Baldwin:
