ghostbusters_2_poster.jpg

I guess I’m still on a Ghostbusters high after writing about Bill Murray…but I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the many gifts 1989’s Ghostbusters II gave us.

Now, I realize that many people out there don’t think the second film in the series was all that great (Bill Murray included). However, I strongly disagree! Not only do I consider the two flicks inseparable, but in my mind they have become one film with classic standouts that make them equally worth enjoying. Among the many gifts of the second film, which include a walking statue of Liberty and dancing slime is the gift of funny paintings. Many of you may not realize this, but Ghostbusters II popularized the use of parody film art (A term I am now going to coin and copyright as “Para-Fart”)…wait a second…

Anyways…I brought some show and tell to demonstrate what I mean. The first piece of evidence is the following group painting from GB II in which the evil Vigo’s painting was comically altered to the following:

Well guess what… this use of art as a comic centerpiece spilled over to Seinfeld in the 1992 episode “The Letter”. Remember the hilarious Cosmo Kramer Painting?

And more recently this painting popped up on Stargate Atlantis in the episode “Harmony”. For those who haven’t seen the episode, you should check it out!

If you have any other examples of this in film or television, please send me a post!

These are the spoken words that keep us up at night praying for our very own true love.

These are also the men and women that remind us that our special someone could come in every shape and form, and isn’t necessarily the one wearing a tiara or riding a shining, white horse.

In this gallery WatchMojo.com takes a look at ten lines to memorize for your own love life!

With production for Ghostbusters 3 starting soon, anticipation for the film is building to feverish levels. It seems that while everyone knows the film may not be able to deliver on 22 years of hype, we want it anyway…

So, as you may know… the latest news circulating the blogosphere about Murray’s involvement in the sequel came from actress Sigourney Weaver. In an interview she told the world that Murray would return to the franchise as a ghost. As you can imagine, this caused quite a bit of confusion and buzz. However, in a more recent interview with Martyn Palmer of Mail Online, Bill Murray decided to pour gasoline on the fire by saying:

“I’ll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost. I said to them, ‘I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.’ So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film.”

Apparently, Murray alluded to wanting to die in the first scene of the new Ghostbusters flick and accompany the team on their adventures in humorous ghost form. I personally think Bill Murray has been watching too much of Bill Cosby’s 1990 comedy classic Ghost Dad. Does every comedian named Bill have to be a funny ghost?

At first I also had a gag reaction to the rumors. However, after watching some Ghost Dad I realized that it can actually be a good/fun plot device. It would be great if the team was trying to bring Murray back from half-death. I think this can potentially (and positively) separate Ghostbusters 3 from the other two films in the series in a way other then everyone being really old…

So before you go bashing this whole ghost thing, go rent Ghost Dad and maybe you’ll dig the idea. Here’s a scene in which Bill Cosby meets a suicidal satanist (before they drive over a bridge):

doctor_horrible.jpg

It’s not often that my love for mad scientists and pompous super heroes gets to merge with musicality and freeze rays…but by god Dr. Horrible managed to exceed my wildest expectations! For those who don’t know, Dr. Horrible is a direct to internet 3-part comedy musical starring Neil Patrick Harris. Some time ago the DVD came out and brought the 50 minute delight to televisions everywhere. What you need to know is that Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind FireFly (One of the best TV series ever), Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer wrote and directed the film. Now with Joss Whedon’s latest series Dollhouse getting the axe, it seems the timing is right for Whedon to produce his highly anticipated sequel. And this pretty much guarantees that Whedon will swear off Television networks (Aside from Buffy’s long run, he’s had nothing but heartache with each premature series cancelation).

So, while Whedon may be ready to get the singing going, Neil Patrick Harris only has a 3 month window of opportunity coming up in which to get back to the lab (How I Met Your Mother goes on hiatus during the off season).

I for one don’t doubt that we can get an equally good product from these guys no matter how much (or little) time they are given. However, if fans (myself included) where offered a theatrical remake or sequel that would bring increased budget and production values, then we would take that in a heartbeat… even if it meant using that old freeze way on the production calender.

For anyone who wants a refresh, or (gasp) missed Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, here’s the trailer:

This is one of my favorite songs in the movie. It’s from a scene in which the cocksure hero Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) starts dating Penny, Dr. Horrible’s crush:
