The first decade of the millennium has seen a sweeping change of the entertainment industry, from African American actors finally getting recognition for their talents, to outrageous new comedians and darker superhero movies. At the same time, scripted television programming took a back seat to countless reality shows, while fantasy novels and documentaries became a film craze, and celebrity icons passed away before their time. In this video, http://WatchMojo.com takes a trip down memory lane to re-tell the key moments from the past decade from entertainment.
As WatchMojo.com just published its 2000s Decade Recap in Entertainment I was left wondering, sure, there are some interesting options on TV these days, but nothing comes close to matching my all-time favorite show, Seinfeld. We recap the industrious 9-seasons of Seinfeld below.
Tale of the Tape
Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld
Directed by Art Wolff, Tom Cherones, Andy Ackerman, Jason Alexander, David Steinberg
Starring Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander
Number of seasons: 9
Flight: July 5, 1989, to May 14, 1998,
Number of episodes 180 (including two-part episodes and clip shows)
The self proclaimed “show about nothing” first aired in 1989 with its pilot episode, however the series did not began airing regularly until 1990. Show creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David used many innovative techniques throughout the Seinfeld years, which led to it being named by many as the greatest television show of all time. Some of these techniques included interweaving character plotlines at the end of most episodes as well as beginning and anchoring the majority of the seasons with bits from Jerry Seinfeld’s standup acts. These bits usually had a direct connection to the episode.
While sounding completely ridiculous, to the point where Seinfeld and David decide to directly mock it in episodes, the idea of a show about nothing paid off. Viewers loved to see people in situations that they could relate to, no matter how ridiculous at times.
The show evolved throughout its nine seasons, growing from a cult favorite to an Emmy winning sitcom with ratings in its final episode of a record breaking 76 million viewers. It was named by TV Guide as the greatest show of all-time and by E! as the number one “Reason the 90s Ruled.”
