Students at Ottawa’s Carleton University just got some good news. This coming fall some of their hard-earned (or, more likely, their parents’ hard-earned) money will be allowed to be used for things other than books.

Carleton became another of the Canadian institutions that are experimenting with textbook rental. Instead of having to buy certain textbooks, students will be able to rent them for the duration of the semester they’re required for, in essence saving students money.
From an Ottawa Citizen article:
“We know that textbooks are always an issue of cost to students,” said Ed Kane, Carleton’s assistant vice-president of university services. “This is another method of getting a book to a student without the expense of buying a brand new textbook.”
