Already nervous for the sugar rush your child will experience after a night of trick-or-treating? Here’s a dietitian’s list of candy that will do the least amount of damage on your kids. The candies on the list have fewer than 100 calories per serving and might not be eaten at all! continue reading...

Yesterday, my wife and I took Roxana to her second doctor’s appointment. I will add some notes from that meeting later on, but I thought it would be good to transcribe a FAQ based on our first appointment, two weeks ago when Roxy was 2 weeks old.

Q - Parents should obviously not smoke cigarettes, but what is a grandparent, aunt or uncle smoke and the smell of smoke sits on their clothes.  Does this cause a problem? continue reading...

Today, I had a couple of big meetings in NYC, and was even slated to sit in on a panel… but the travel gods had different plans: my flight got canceled.  The old me would have grabbed my car and drove down to NYC… the new me rushed to my car to go see my newborn daughter.

Anyone who says fatherhood doesn’t change you is lying. continue reading...

You gotta love technology.  When my parents were expecting me, they did not even know my gender.  Today, not only can you tell the gender… but you can see what your kid will look like, sort, thanks to GE’s Fetal Imaging Products.

My wife Christine did two sonograms, one in January when she was about 5 months into the pregnancy, then the next one in April when she was about 8 months into it. continue reading...

So just a couple of nights ago I suspected that my newborn Roxana might have colic.  Turns out, I don’t think so now.  We did give her a pacifier to calm her down.  Luckily she sucks on one sparingly and is as enamored with the boob as ever…

But more importantly, we focused on burping her more rigorously and frequently and it has helped enormously. continue reading...

Today marks Roxana’s first week anniversary.  Last week at this time, my wife was about halfway through the labor process.

In the next few days I will be covering the first moments after Roxana’s birth as well as her first week. On my end: I absolutely love it.  I’ve decided to take some time off to spend with Roxana and my wife Christine.  When our in-laws pass by, I’ll step out to run errands…  more on that at a later date. continue reading...

May 31st, 2008.

That was the day that my wife Christine and I had been looking to - both with nervousness and excitement - since finding out in fall of 2007 that she was pregnant, again.  Incidentally, while my wife’s first pregnancy ended with a miscarriage, the first one started off with the death of the my grandmother, the only grandparent I’d ever known. continue reading...

My wife and I are expecting a baby girl next month.  Maybe it’s because she skipped breakfast?

Women on low-calorie diets or who skip breakfast at the time of conception are more likely to give birth to girls than boys, British scientists said on Wednesday. continue reading...

July 1st 2007 just might very well go down as the worst day of my life.  It was a long weekend, and the weekend had gotten off to a rather crappy start.  That Friday, my wife Christine - who was pregnant for less than a month - told me that she had spotted some blood in her urine after going to the washroom.

Like most normal men, I got worried. continue reading...
