It was thanks to the family dog, known as Angel, that 11-year-old Austin is uninjured after a cougar jumped into his family’s backyard in Boston Bar, B.C.
The golden retriever jumped in between Austin and the cougar before he could charge the boy.
The family called 9-1-1 and a near-by mountie responded within minutes.
When the officer arrived, the cougar had Angel under the porch with its teeth around the dog’s neck. The Mountie killed the cougar after firing several shots.
The dog was injured, but is expected to recover. Austin wasn’t hurt.
