The 12 most important cars of all time from 1908 to the present, including:

* Chrysler Airflow (1934-37) - “The company’s use of wind tunnel testing was visionary and is now common practice.”
* Volkswagen Beetle (1938-2003) - “The tough little Bug long outlived that ancestry to become the best selling single car model of all time.”
* Honda Civic (1972-present) - “The first car out of Japan to prove that the country was going to be a serious player.”
* British Motor Corporation Mini (1959-2000) - “Its technical layout was copied by everybody and is still basically used in today’s small cars.”
* Plymouth Voyager (1984-2000) - “Renault claims that its Espace was the first minivan but it had hinged doors and every soccer mom in the U.S. knows that a proper minivan has sliding doors.”
* The Sport Utility Vehicle (1990s-present) - “Be it a Jeep Cherokee or a Ford Explorer or supersized to a Humvee, the SUV, whose ancestors were military jeeps, soon became the voracious and luxurious symbol of middle-class and boomer excess in throughout the 1990s” continue reading...

Perth, WA (PRWEB) August 22, 2007 — Western Australian motorists who drive Mazdas are happier with their cars than drivers of other top selling vehicles according to the results of a recent vehicle ownership satisfaction study conducted by the R.A.C and one of the world’s leading market research organisations, J.D. Power and Associates.

The study focuses on the owners of vehicles up to three years old (cars manufactured in 2004 or later) and compiles an overall customer satisfaction index or C.S.I. based on the vehicle owners’ answers to a range of questions. continue reading...

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ — CarGurus (www.cargurus.com), a leading online automotive community, today announced its mid-year top 10 most popular car models as voted by consumers on www.CarGurus.com. Based on the quantity and quality of ratings received by each car on CarGurus, 2007 models were ranked by consumer popularity. Given the recent news on global warming and the need for greater fuel economy, it was surprising that 70% of the top 10 most popular cars were utility trucks or sports cars. Topping the popularity list was the Jeep Wrangler followed by the Ford Mustang.

Of additional interest was the fact that none of the top 10 cars had an average gas mileage that met the most recent 2004 Federal CAFE gas mileage standard (27.5 MPG for cars and 20.7 MPG for light trucks). The gas stingy Toyota Prius (avg MPG of 46) was only the 15th most popular car on the list. According to Automotive News, the best selling cars for the first half of 2007 mirror this gas mileage trend, with only 2 of the top 10 selling cars (the compact sedans Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic) beating the CAFE gas mileage requirements. continue reading...

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 19, 2007 — Gaywheels.com, the sole source of information specifically targeted to and about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) car-shoppers, today announced its list of the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles during the second quarter of 2007. For the fourth straight quarter, the entry-level Toyota Yaris maintained the top position, while for the first time ever, a Nissan product, the Infiniti-branded FX sport-utility vehicle, joined the list.

“After being added to the gay-friendly list late last year, Nissan’s overall ranking as a brand moved up steadily from just outside of the Top 25 to inside the Top 10, while its Infiniti luxury brand saw a similarly dramatic rise,” said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. “As the first model from either brand on the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles list, the appearance of the Infiniti FX clearly shows the advantage of offering equal benefits to all employees when reaching gay consumers.” continue reading...

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ — MotorWeek recognizes the Hyundai Entourage as the “Best Minivan” in its 2007 Editors’ Choice Awards. The award was distributed at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. As a winner, the Entourage will also be featured on a special MotorWeek episode on PBS, February 10.

“MotorWeek’s 2007 Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Minivan goes to a duet, the Hyundai Entourage and Kia Sedona,” said John Davis, producer, host and creator of MotorWeek, the automotive series on PBS. “This second-generation Korean-branded design matches all the best features of its rivals, and then beats them in price and powertrain warranty. The leaps that Hyundai and Kia make in perceived quality with each new vehicle are well documented, and the Entourage and Sedona are just the latest examples. From school bus to apartment moving, minivans are the most versatile vehicles on the planet, and this two-some is tops.” continue reading...
