Venture Beat asks an interesting question this morning: Has Smart Money Abandoned US Web 2.0 Companies?
It’s fitting to ask because I wonder how many of the 40 companies presenting at today and tomorrow’s Tech Crunch are the so-called Web 2.0 companies with the characteristics we’ve come to expect. Of course, it’s one thing to be a me-too Web 2.0 company in the US with many competitors and no real barrier to entry, and quite another to be one in Europe, Asia etc., where many things we take for granted have yet to break in the US. Today’s companies at TC 40 hail from both the US and abroad… which makes for an interesting twist: a Facebook clone in the US has no chance, but one from [country X]? Maybe…
