The Summer Effect is the phenomenon that affects websites in the summer when folks close their computers and go outdoors. It ranges anywhere from a dip of 5% to as high as 25%. Bottom line: it depends.
When we relaunched WatchMojo.com on August 18th, 2007, I knew it would help traffic in terms of unique users, pageviews, video streams, search queries and of course, average time spent on the site by user, but I was floored this week to see a 75% spike in video streams since then, that is a growth rate of 75% in one month! That, is pretty insane. Away from WatchMojo.com, I am glad to say that our syndication network grew 30% from July to August, which is not bad at all, and we expect a slightly more robust growth rate from August to September. We’re working on auto-syndicating in the very near future: basically simultaneously publishing our clips on WatchMojo.com and publishing across our syndication network.
