This evening, I paused all of the ad campaigns we had on the Mojo Supreme network from ad networks.

At my old job, my esteemed colleagues and I always referenced the progress we made with advertisers as a function of how much our “latest” advertiser was slicker than our first ever advertiser.  I won’t mention who that “first advertiser” at my old company was because it would seem disrespectful…

But I will say that I am extremely proud to announce that May 2007 marks the first month when we have three, count’ em three advertisers on the Mojo Supreme network… and the reason why I am proud is the quality of the advertisers in question.

Here’s a list of all of the wonderful companies I’ve had the honor of working with in the last 7 years, between my first, second and this being the third online business I have been involved with.

And I’d like to announce that all of the ad networks on the site have been removed to make way for our three - and growing - advertisers:

RaiseCapital.com:

RaiseCapital.com is an online community, where entrepreneurs can showcase their business ideas and capital needs (whether a start-up or existing business) to investors.

The problem that has always challenged entrepreneurial individuals is where to locate capital. More times then not, some of the best investment ideas never come to market due to the limited access to capital. In addition, established businesses seeking capital to expand can face similar problems.

RaiseCapital.com makes it possible for individuals and businesses to market their investment opportunities in a cost effective and efficient manner. Investors can find dynamic local, regional or nationwide investments opportunities with ease, using our database search tool.

> StudentUniverse.com:

StudentUniverse is the online travel service that enables students to travel for less. By negotiating with the major airlines on their behalf, StudentUniverse provides students with exclusive, significantly discounted airfares. From destination guides to a proprietary booking engine, StudentUniverse is the leading online resource that allows students to research and purchase reduced-cost travel products online. Founded as a student travel agency in 1992, StudentUniverse launched its online presence in January 2000.

> Compete.com:

In 2000, Overture founder Bill Gross created Compete.com to organize the clicks we all make on the web. The vision was simple: if we all share our clicks, then each of us gets smarter by knowing what’s happening across the web.  Compete.com helps you personally benefit from click-sharing. Whether it’s protecting you from a dangerous site, profiling each website you visit, or showing you promo codes that will save you money at check out, Compete wants to help create a more trusted, transparent, and valuable Internet.

Incidentally, Student Universe is also the first creative client we had, for whom we created video ads, you can see them here.

If you’re a reader of this site, we thank you for sitting through this little shout-out… and promise to give you the kind of posts you’ve come to expect… and if you’re an advertiser looking for something different and effective, drop us a line at advertise@watchmojo.com.

For some time now, I have been telling people that what will really stop video advertising from blowing up to reach the lofty targets folks like eMarketer are calling for is not advertisers’ desire to experiment with online video, but rather, a shortage of compelling content to advertise alongside and mainly, compelling creative.

That’s right, if you think repackaging a 30 second TV ad for the Web will work, you’re wrong.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying TV ads don’t work online, but I am a web video guy and instinctively I pull the laptop plug out of the socket when a 30-second pre-roll comes on, let alone close the browser window.

Valleywag - the Debbie Downer of the industry (in the sense that while many are in ga-ga mode, Valleywag actually seems to present a more sober perspective) - quotes Doubleclick CEO:

David Rosenblatt, in the process of selling the online advertising broker to Google, says there are only about a hundred big advertisers experimenting with online video commercials. That compares with up to 5,000 buyers of graphical ads on the web, and a full million buying text ads on Google and other search engines.

That’s unsurprisingly true and logical, but could that be because any primate can create a campaign with text ads, but display ads - or rather, appealing display ads - take longer to develop and video ads even longer?

Worth asking… at WatchMojo.com, we’re rolling out our creative services for made-for-web video ads… drop us a line if you’d like to learn more.  Here’s a couple of our first ads for our first creative client.

I won’t comment on Digg’s reaction to the takedown notices, enough people are doing that, and I am sure there are many great points.

The one thing this confirms once and for all is that social media and news is doomed becaause what makes it great makes it horrible.  Imagine how much damage users can make to an advertising campaign they dislike on a site like Digg.

Throughout publishing and advertising history, marketers entrust publishers to nurture their brands, give the power to the people and you sort of lose any real power you have.  That is not a bad thing, it just is, but making social media pay just got a helluva lot more complicated…

If I am one of the VCs that financied Digg in one of the later rounds, I start to think that an exit by way of a sale is the only option, I do not see many advertisers really seeking to risk having the Digg mob turn their marketing messages upside down just because they can.

The digital content revolution continues?

According to MediaPost.com

Recognizing the demand for scalable Web-centric content, Digitas has launched a digital creative production company named Prodigious Worldwide. The unit will serve the digital demands of all Publicis Groupe agencies and the marketplace at large. Anchor client is the Digitas digital production team for General Motors.

(…)

“Scale production is a critical need across our entire client base and on every continent where we serve clients,” said Marc Landsberg, President of Arc Worldwide. Today, Arc and its rivals are “facing almost limitless demand for robust, scalable, technology-enabled marketing solutions,” he added.

Added Tom Eslinger, Worldwide Interactive Creative Director at Saatchi & Saatchi: “The world of digital communications is shaped by excellence in two important areas: the strategic and creative excellence in shaping the digital message, and the ability to produce and execute that message.”

Hmm… The following is not one of our big announcements of the week, but we’re very proud to announce WatchMojo.com’s latest advertiser, StudentUniverse.com, and here are a couple of intro and outro video creative ads we produced for them.  Many more to come.

If you would like to learn more about our creative services, drop me a line at ash@mojosupreme.com.

As an entrepreneur, seeing our business model being validated more and more day in and day out is the nicest thing you can ever ask for…

The digital content revolution continues?

According to Paid Content:

“– Dave Goldberg, former VP and GM of Yahoo Music, and co-founder and former CEO of Launch, has joined Benchmark Capital as an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR). As an EIR, Goldberg will be looking at consumer media markets, including music, video, and digital content, and he will assist Benchmark companies across the portfolio. That means he’s hatching a new startup with Benchmark…would be interesting to see if it will be in the DRM-free online music arena. He has been a longtime advocate of DRM-free music.”

This is yet another manifestation of the “smart money” realizing the need for middle of the market content: not UGC, not professional stuff.  Why?

The most money in terms of volume x rates will be in the mid-area:
