Mike Moritz apparently hates hearing from entrepreneurs who use the term, I can understand. But if there was a Slam Dunk VC these days, it would be Sequoia’s Mike Moritz. The company backed Yahoo! - and told Yahoo! to keep the name, Google and YouTube.
As Google’s wealth rose, Moritz was oftentimes juxtaposed with John Doerr, of Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers. The two were seen as head-to-head in the VC game. John Doerr got the edge, mainly do to his track record being even more shiny than Moritz.
But while Doerr has set off into the sunset with his near obsession with solar energy, Moritz has kept his focus on consumer internet applications and rose to the top. Check out this fantastic profile from Guardian.
