During the second quarter of this year, Sirius gained 600,460 new subscribers, while industry leader XM garnered 398,000. Not bad for Sirius, which still trails XM in overall subscribers with 4.67 million to XM’s 6.89 million. Will Sirius, with the likes of Howard Stern, pull even soon?

As I’ve said many times, the net’s not neutral, yet another example today as eBay blacklists Google Checkout, read more.  Not surprisingly, many eBay sellers knocked eBay’s decision (wonder if this was approved by Pierre Omydiar, whose ”values and ideals” would run counter to this… but of course, I might be naive, this is business after all).

Few people talk about how eBay fits in the competitive landscape, but between eBay’s 25% stake in Craigslist and Google launching and positioning Google Base as Craigslist competition, this was to be expected.  Also, eBay’s ads are now sold by Yahoo!, a Google competitor… the odd thing is that Yahoo! itself uses eBay’s paypal, so this is indeed rather odd.

I think eBay learned from Yahoo!’s decision to use Google search and grow it into the monster it is today.  As the largest marketplace, eBay knows that they can lend much credibility and give traction to Google Pocket if they accept it, but, given that eBay represents all that is good with capitalism, this move to block Checkout is uncompetitive, so we’ll see whether public opinion or the courts will make them change their stance.

If the decision is not changed, Google should replace all of the “bottom of the barrel” ads that eBay runs on Google with text links promoting Google Base.

Come to think of it, they might welcome eBay’s move… since had Google done just that (swap out eBay text ads with links to Google Base), people would have deemed it “evil,” but now, it’s not so evil at all.
