The anticipation is at an all time high: Oceanâs 8, the newest, all female led, addition to the Oceanâs trilogy, dropped its first trailer this week, and did not disappoint. Here are three things we canât wait to see in the upcoming Oceanâs 8 film.
#3: Mindy Kalingâs Performance
2017 is the year of Kaling: sheâs set to star in two major studio productions, sheâs landed a deal with NBC to produce her up and coming show âChampionsâ, and she recently gave birth to her first child, Katherine Kaling. While Mindy is most famously known for her roles as Kelly Kapoor and Mindy Lahiri in the Office and the Mindy project respectively, her scope as an actress has, up until this role, largely been limited to the comedic genre. Weâre ecstatic to see Mindy going beyond her obvious comedic chops and treading into the realm of the dramatic. We canât wait to see what this supreme talent has in store for us.
#2: The Costume Design
The trailer for this Oceanâs film is giving us life, particularly as it pertains to the breath-taking jewels and high fashion vibes. As the heist takes place at the Met Gala, we can only imagine what the production design and costumes will look like. Weâre already excited by the amount of fur coats, leather boots, and ruffled shoulder pads that the trailer has given us a taste of, and weâre sure the film wonât disappoint as it comes to serving fabulous looks.
#1: An All-Female Cast
While the action/crime drama genre has long been reserved for men, this long awaited addition to the Oceanâs Trilogy has turned the genre on its head in favour of an all female cast. Boasting names like Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna (to name a few), the film promises its share of drama and gut busting laughs. While itâs true that the film sorely missed the opportunity to attach a female director, the badass female ensemble is enough to make us forget⦠a little.
