It’s a great time to be a 90s kids, as some of the most beloved shows from our youth have recently made a comeback. D.J. Tanner became the head of her household in Fuller House, Cory Matthews passed the torch to his daughter in Girl Meets World, and now Clarissa Marie Darling will return to Nickelodeon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Melissa Joan Hart is in talks to reprise her role in a sequel series to Clarissa Explain It All. In this reboot of sorts, Clarissa would no longer be a developing teenager girl, but a mother with a family or her own. Creator Mitchell Kriegman would also possibly return as a writer and executive producer. The original series ran from 1991 to 1994, producing 65 episodes. This actually isn’t the first time a continuation of Clarissa’s adventures has been pitched. A pilot for a CBS followup was shot in 1995, but ultimately didn’t get picked up.
Following Clarissa Explain It All, Hart went on to play the titular character in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which ran from 1996 to 2003. Interestingly enough, Sabrina is also getting a reboot on Netflix, although this version will have no direct connection to the original show. Rather, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be more in the vein of Riverdale with Kiernan Shipka playing the titular teenage witch.
Nickelodeon has been bringing a lot of its classic shows back as of late. Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie finally resolved all the unanswered questions the series finale left us with. Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim will also live on via TV films. Now that Clarissa is returning, who knows what’s next. The Super Secret World of Alex Mack? The Adventures of Pete & Pete Continue? Salute Your Shorts: The College Years? Now wouldn’t that be tubular!
